An elite red cru at the heart of Anjou, around the Château de Brissac, the appellation (renamed Anjou Brissac in 2020) selects the finest hillsides for the cabernets alone. Structured, refined reds, the pinnacle of Anjou cabernet.

The Cru of Brissac

Around the Château de Brissac, across eight communes between the Loire and the Layon, this appellation, reserved for red wine, selects the finest terroirs in Anjou. Granted appellation status in 1998 under the name Anjou-Villages Brissac, it was renamed "Anjou Brissac" in 2020. Only cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon are permitted.

Terroir and Style

This is "Anjou Noir" territory, with schist soils from the Armorican Massif, on well-exposed hillsides. This terroir, combined with the sole presence of the cabernets and extended ageing, gives deep, structured reds with a deep hue and silky tannins, capable of ageing for several years — the most ambitious face of Anjou red wine.
