The Hillsides of the Nantais Loire

Between Nantes and Ancenis, on the banks of the Loire, the Coteaux d'Ancenis appellation was promoted to AOC in 2011 after a long history as VDQS. It produces mainly gamay reds and rosés, and a distinctive off-dry white wine made from malvoisie, the local name for pinot gris.

Grape Varieties and Style

Gamay produces light, fruity reds and easy-drinking rosés, often supplemented with a little cabernet franc. But the appellation's speciality is malvoisie: a soft, fragrant off-dry white wine, with fruity aromas, which sets the Pays Nantais apart beyond its famous dry whites.
