Coteaux du Vendômois — terroir, soils & grape varieties

Between Vendôme and Montoire, this Loir valley appellation has made its pineau d'Aunis "vin gris" its signature. A pale, peppery rosé, alongside blended reds and chenin whites.

The Land of Vin Gris

Across twenty-seven communes in the Loir-et-Cher, between Vendôme and Montoire-sur-le-Loir, the Coteaux du Vendômois appellation reached AOC status in 2001. Its distinguishing feature, permitted since 1997, is "vin gris": a very pale rosé obtained by directly pressing pineau d'Aunis, which has become the appellation's calling card.

Grape Varieties and Style

Pineau d'Aunis reigns supreme, in gris as in red (where it is rounded out with gamay, pinot noir and the cabernets); chenin, sometimes with a touch of chardonnay, signs the whites. The peppery, light gris, best served well chilled, is the flagship wine; the fruity, supple reds and the lively whites complete a range of wines for immediate enjoyment.
