A pocket-sized appellation in the south-east
Côtes de Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire is one of the smallest appellations in the Bordeaux region. It covers about ten communes around Saint-Macaire, in the south-east of the region, in the continuation of the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux, on the right bank of the Garonne. Its production, exclusively sweet whites, has become negligible.
The style of the wines
The appellation is reserved for sweet white wines, which can reach luscious levels in great vintages. Sémillon, sauvignon and muscadelle combine to produce elegant, fresh and round sweet wines. Rare and little-known, these sweet wines suit an aperitif as well as sweet-and-savoury pairings, and make a lovely discovery for the curious wine lover.
