Côtes du Roussillon Villages — terroir, soils & grape varieties

Côtes du Roussillon Villages is a red-wine appellation in Pyrénées-Orientales, recognised since 1977. Its vineyards bring together varied landscapes and soils around the Agly, Têt and Corbières.

Roussillon landscapes

In the north of the department, vines follow the Agly valley between the Têt and the Corbières massif. The Les Aspres designation occupies terraces south of the Têt. The climate is Mediterranean.

Distinct geographical designations

Caramany, Latour-de-France, Les Aspres, Lesquerde and Tautavel may be added to the appellation name. Their soils comprise, respectively, gneiss, schist, clay-silt terraces, weathered granite sands and clay-limestone formations.
