Fiefs Vendéensterroir, soils & grape varieties

The vineyard of the ocean. Split into five Vendée "fiefs" — Mareuil, Brem, Vix, Pissotte, Chantonnay — the appellation grows a varied range of grapes, including négrette, for briny, generous wines just steps from the Atlantic.

Five Fiefs by the Atlantic

The Fiefs Vendéens appellation, granted AOC status in 2011, is not a single block but five distinct Vendée terroirs — Mareuil, Brem, Vix, Pissotte and Chantonnay — each with its own character. It is the most oceanic vineyard on the Atlantic coast, producing all three colours.

Grape Varieties and Style

The grape mix is varied: négrette gives the reds a distinctive touch, alongside gamay, pinot noir and the cabernets; the whites and rosés draw on chenin, chardonnay or grolleau gris. The result is fresh wines, often marked by maritime influence, generous and best drunk young — ideal with seafood from the coast.
