A Hillside in the Loir Valley

In the communes of Lhomme and Ruillé-sur-Loir, in the Sarthe, Jasnières occupies a single south-facing hillside overlooking the Loir valley — the tributary, not to be confused with the Loire. It is one of the smallest appellations in the region, devoted entirely to chenin blanc.

Terroir and Style

The plots rest on chalky, well-drained soils derived from Turonian tuffeau. On this cool limestone base, chenin gives whites of great precision: mostly dry, taut and mineral, though depending on the vintage and the pickings they can also turn off-dry or even sweet. Rare, sought-after wines for cellaring.
