Juliénas — terroir, soils & grape varieties

Juliénas is a red cru in northern Beaujolais made from Gamay. The appellation of origin has been recognised since 1938.

In northern Beaujolais

The Juliénas area is divided between three communes in Rhône and one in Saône-et-Loire. Vineyards occupy the south face of Mont de Bessay above the Mauvaise valley, between Villefranche-sur-Saône and Mâcon.

A diversity of soils

The appellation's soils are predominantly granite and volcanic. Terrain diversity accompanies the vineyards' different locations.
