A Cru within Savennières

On the lieu-dit of Roche aux Moines, in the commune of Savennières, this cru forms a separate appellation within the great dry chenin terroir on the right bank of the Loire. Its name comes from the volcanic rock that surfaces on the hillside.

Terroir and Style

The subsoil combines ancient schist and schist-greywacke with, above all, seams of volcanic rhyolite that surface — hence the place's name. The shallow, very stony soils, sometimes covered with wind-blown sands, give a supple, well-structured dry chenin, richly aromatic and with fine ageing potential, in the lineage of the great Savennières.
