Pic Saint-Loup — terroir, soils & grape varieties

Pic Saint-Loup is a Languedoc red- and rosé-wine appellation recognised as an AOC in 2017. Its vineyards lie north of Montpellier, around Pic Saint-Loup and the Hortus causse.

Between garrigue and limestone terrain

The vineyards occupy garrigue north of Montpellier, at the foot of the first Cévennes foothills. Plots are interspersed with copses and limestone features. Soils include limestone, marl, dolomite and scree.

Contrasting climatic influences

Proximity to the Mediterranean and Cévennes combines different climatic influences. Day–night temperature differences characterise this territory.

An appellation recognised in 2017

Pic Saint-Loup became a Coteaux du Languedoc designation in 1985. Recognition as an independent appellation followed in 2017.
